1996 Husker Red Beardstongue
Botanical Name: Penstemon ‘Husker Red’
This sturdy native from Nebraska is a perennial that should be in every garden! Sturdy mounds of leaves appear in beet red in Spring and fall, and dark green in summer. In late June until August, white tubular flowers appear on almost black stems, reaching a height of almost 36 inches. The outstanding foliage effect is best in full sun, and beardstongues grow in average to moist soil. Attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies.
