Botanical Name: Helleborus x hybridus
A beautiful, different and interesting plant that prefers shade! Known as a Christmas or Lenten Rose in Europe because of its early bloom time, it’s not uncommon to see these beauties bloom even while the snow is laying around in late April. Hellebores are a bushy, clumpforming evergreen with striking architectural foliage. Growing 12 to 18 inches high and wide in full to part shade, they need a humousy soil with average to moist soil in which to thrive. The cup shaped flowers come in a variety of colours: white, cream, pink, red, green and black- the colour becoming deeper as the season progresses. Stunning when planted as specimans amongst hosta or astilbe; even more so when planted in mass!
