2009 Golden Japanese Forest Grass
Botanical Name: Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’
Probably one of the most ornamental of all the grasses, Japanese Forest Grass will also grow in shade, although some sunlight will encourage it to have brighter gold highlights. Hardy in our Zone 5 climate it will grow to a height of 24 inches and can spread to 36 inches, but its slow growing nature will require years to do so. It can also be grown in full sun provided it has sufficient moisture. It is beautiful at the border’s edge and along pathways where its gentle mounding nature can best be appreciated. This low maintenance plant is worth the wait!
